The School of Spiritual and Cultural Studies, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, warmly welcomes students, temple enthusiasts, researchers and seekers of traditional knowledge to Advanced Certificate Course on Śaiva Iconography - Decoding the Sacred Symbolism and Divine Manifestations of Lord Śiva.

This intensive 6-week online certificate course offers an in-depth exploration of the specialized field of Śaiva Iconography, tracing the evolution of Lord Śiva from his early Vedic origins as Rudra to the profound cosmic symbolism embodied in Naṭarāja.

Grounded in the Śaiva Āgamas, the course examines the transition of the Divine from the unmanifest Niṣkala (Liṅga) to the partially manifest Sakala-Niṣkala (Mukhalinga) and the fully manifest Sakala (Maheśvara) forms. Participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of the visual language, symbolism, and theological foundations underlying the diverse iconic representations of Śiva found in temples across India.

In this course, you will:

* Understand the structure and significance of the Śaiva Āgamas.
* Study the technical anatomy of the Liṅga and specialized forms such as Mukhaliṅga and Sahasraliṅga.
* Explore the iconography of the 25 primary sportive manifestations (Līlāmūrtis), including Somāskanda, Ardhanārīśvara, Dakṣiṇāmūrti and other celebrated forms.
* Analyze the symbolism of the Samhāra (destructive) manifestations such as Kālāntaka, Gajasaṃhāra and Śarabha.
* Examine the theology and symbolism of Anugraha (grace-bestowing) forms including Caṇḍeśānugraha and Viṣṇvanugraha.
* Learn to identify attendant deities, vāhanas, dvārapālas, and important Śaiva sages.
* Understand how postures, attributes, gestures, and iconographic details communicate specific cosmic functions and spiritual meanings.

Learning Outcomes
